What happens if some of your students haven't yet applied for a course at university or college? Here’s some advice from UCAS to help them complete their application.

UCAS

UCAS are the official online admissions service for UK universities and colleges – they are a non-profit organisation and have registered charity status. UCAS works on behalf of the universities, connecting people to higher education. They process undergraduate applications to full-time courses at UK universities and colleges and some other European countries, and provide a central source of information and advice on higher education.

If you have a student who’s decided that they want to go to university, only to find the deadline has passed, they can still apply to start this year. Missing the deadline doesn’t mean their chance of going to university are over. However, there are a few things they should consider before they start their application.

  1. Late application deadline
The late application deadline is the 30 June. Any application sent after 30 June will be entered into Clearing. Even though the deadline seems a lifetime away we’d recommend applying as soon as possible. Courses will continue to fill up after the deadline so the sooner they apply the more chance they have of securing a place!

  2. Research
It’s important to research the courses available before making an application. Please advise your students to check our search tool for all available courses. It’s also worth them speaking to the university they’re interested in to make sure they’ll consider a late application and whether they meet the entry requirements.

  3. The application
There isn’t a different application form for late applicants, it’s the same no matter when they apply. They should visit our website which is full of advice on how to complete an application. They need to complete a personal statement and get a reference before they apply. We have a lot of advice on how to complete their personal statement on our website and in this handy video.

They can also get in touch with our advisers on Facebook or Twitter who’ll be more than happy to help.
