The National Networks for Collaborative Outreach scheme
A scheme that encourages young people into higher education is bringing together local universities and colleges to provide outreach to schools and colleges.

The National Networks for Collaborative Outreach scheme, which is run by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), involves 200 universities and colleges. This year it will reach 4,300 secondary schools and colleges through 34 local networks and four national networks.

How does it work?

Each network has a single point of contact who helps teachers and advisers find out about the outreach activity in their area and provides general advice about entering higher education.

Each network has its own website with information about the outreach activity and signposts to further information to support schools and colleges as they prepare their students for higher education.

There’s a full list of networks on HEFCE’s website: www.hefce.ac.uk

The National Network for the Education of Care Leavers was created to champion the continuous improvement of practitioners in both raising aspirations of and supporting care leavers through higher education.

On 16 June this year, the network will be holding its first webinar aimed at staff supporting children in care and care leavers in their school, college and local authority. Full details are available online http://nnecl.org/activities/supporting-care-leavers-in-higher
