▌Postgraduate Loans – supporting your students
As the new academic year starts, the first students who are able to get the new Postgraduate Loan are getting ready to start their Master’s courses.

Getting paid

For those that have applied, they should check their application has been approved and make sure they’ve signed and returned their declaration form. Their first payment will be made directly to their bank account once they’ve registered on their course.

If any of your Master’s students haven’t applied for a Postgraduate Loan yet, you should let them know that it’s not too late.

Supporting our students

We’ve been running dedicated surgeries on The Student Room to support students thinking about studying a Master’s course. We’ve been asked a wide variety of questions, many of which have been similar.

The three main topics we’ve been asked about are:

• eligibility – particularly about residency requirements
• previous study
• how to apply and what’s available

One of the main advantages of engaging with students in this way is that it allows the information to be shared. If one student with a question phones us, we can answer that question for that one student, but here students can access information on a public forum and get their questions answered quicker. We can tell from the number of views that the posts are being read by many people, both during the surgeries and when the forum is closed between sessions.

If your students have any questions, they can look through the posts on our surgery, as there’s a good chance someone else has wanted to know the same thing.

We also have a dedicated Postgraduate Loan YouTube playlist, with films explaining how to apply and how the loan is repaid, as well as a range of ‘Ask SFE about...’ films giving more detailed information on a range of related topics. These are all available on our YouTube channel.
