The new student first has to register their details with us and sign up for an account. Once they have registered, they will need to access their account. Once inside their account, they can then use the link provided to apply for student finance - (show | hide)
The application process, and the questions that are asked, differs slightly for students depending on their circumstances. The main difference is whether they want to apply for a 'means tested' loan or a 'non-means tested' loan.
The non-means tested loan route is the simplest, meaning it asks the least questions and requires least effort from the student. However, there is a flat loan amount that the student can apply for. The means tested loan route asks more questions and requires more effort from the student. They also need to provide sponsor details, usually their parents, which means that their household income can be taken into account when working out how much money the student can apply for.
This can potentially lead to the student being eligible for more money than they would get with the non-means tested loan. The means tested route therefore asks more questions and requires more effort from the student and their sponsor.
After they have submitted all the details necessary they can submit their application. However, if the student is being sponsored (same session) the sponsor needs to supply their details before the student can submit. After submission they will be notified, on screen, what evidence is required. After sending in the evidence they will be assessed and payments will be scheduled.
